Why did you decide that a book about ghosts was needed?
We noticed throughout the first years of working as mediums that there was a connection with the history of the ghosts and those they visited. There was almost always a common theme, for example sadness, loneliness or a feeling of being wrong. There was a lot of life wisdom to be derived from the ghosts' stories, which we also used in our sessions with clients who struggled with similar themes in their everyday lives. We thought that there would perhaps be an interest in lives that had been lived to the end, and a wisdom that others could benefit from, and that the stories would perhaps create a recognition and reflection in the reader.
Which ghost story has affected you the most?
Jacob’s from the story Jacob's Fatal Game. Probably because it's about a child.
Why do you think people are afraid of what you work with?
Because it is something unknown. It is intangible and therefore something we do not know how to handle. Then people tend to become insecure and afraid.
Was there a story that was so extreme that it could not be included in the book?
There have been several stories that we have not included in the book because they were too private. It was deceased family members who were visiting and the conversations had the feel of something very private for the residents we visited. In one case it was a family member who had committed suicide and in another visit it was about a family member who had sexually abused another family member. In a third family, it was about domestic violence. We have only included stories where the people we visited did not know the ghost and where we could focus on the ghost's life. That way, the family we visited remained completely anonymous.
